Brew Day: Bells Two Hearted BIAB

Bells Two Hearted Clone

Bells Two Hearted Clone

I brewed a Bell’s Two Hearted clone based on a recipe in Zymurgy magazine (the actual recipe provided by Bells).  I brewed as a 3 gallon brew in a bag (BIAB) to make it a quicker brew day.  The last time I brewed this, I did it as a 2 gallon BIAB test batch, and it turned out really well, although I only had about 18 bottles worth; this should give me a few more!  I recently found one bottle from my first batch, and am looking forward to seeing how it aged.

Remote Thermometer

Remote Thermometer

I used a remote thermostat that we bought at Target, which allowed me to keep the temperature probe in the kettle for the 60 minute mash, without having to remove the lid to take the temperature and lose heat. For brew in a bag, this is huge!

I used WLP001, and needed a 1L starter, so opted to make a 2L starter to keep 1L for Tasty McDole’s pale ale recipe, which I hope to brew when I get back from vacation in a week or so.

I believe I posted the recipe in a prior blog post, but attached is the recipe as seen in Zymurgy which, again, is the recipe provided by Bells Brewery.

Let's hear from...you! Drop me a note here:
